10 Most Hated Battlestar Galactica Episodes

8. Final Cut - Season 2, Episode 8

Battlestar Galactica The Passage
Universal

With distrust of the military running high, Adama and Roslin agree to allow journalist D'Anna Biers to film the daily life on Galactica to humanize the soldiers. Biers insists she won’t do a propaganda piece, while Adama states that the footage mustn’t compromise the ships safety.

The episode utilizes a documentary footage style, which can have a bit of a gimmicky feel with the camera in front of the camera adding a bit of artifice. It occasionally exposes the performances as performances rather than reality.

There are some decent character moments with some of the supporting cast getting a chance to shine. Even better are the debates about the role of journalists and whether it's right to not broadcast key information if it means the survival of society.

All of that is undone, though, by an annoying final twist. It turns out Biers is a Cylon. The reveal instantly makes her a much less interesting character. All the previous points made about burying certain facts in the best interest of society become tainted. Now her actions become all about whatever agenda the Cylons have planned and, as the credits keep assuring us, they supposedly have a plan.
