College can be a difficult experience, particularly in your freshman year. If you happen to be sharing a room with somebody, getting along harmoniously is pretty important, but unfortunately for Buffy, her roommate is a maniac.

Kathy Newman – though she appears nice enough – doesn’t have much self-awareness. She has a cheery personality that comes over as psychotic rather than friendly.

And to make matters worse, she has a number of annoying habits. As well as her obsession with Cher’s ‘Believe’, Kathy also nags Buffy about her phone usage, stuffs the fridge with her labelled food, and routinely shuts the window whenever Buffy opens it. These things may seem trivial, but there’s a passive-aggressive quality to all of Kathy’s actions that makes her cheeriness even more irritating.

As it turns out, Kathy is actually a Mok'tagar demon attempting to steal Buffy’s soul, but this doesn’t make her actions any less maddening.
