10 Most Horrifying Star Trek Moments

3. The Bodies Move

Star Trek Night Terrors
CBS

This episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation was terrifying. When one keeps in mind that Star Trek is, generally, an adventure show with philosophical leanings, it is important to remember that it doesn't often go in for pure horror. This, perhaps more than any other on this list, could be a scene taken straight from a '70s psychological horror.

Dr. Crusher, suffering the same effects as the rest of the crew, is beginning to show the strain from the lack of REM sleep. She is conducting an autopsy on the bodies of the crew from the USS Brattain, the Miranda class vessel that was trapped and eventually devastated by a subspace anomoly.

She starts to hear noises. They could be whispers at first, a light wind rustling around the room. Then, it one of the most disturbing yet simple scenes in the entire franchise, she turns to see that every body in the room, still covered in their sheets, have raised into a sitting position, silently staring at the terrified Doctor.

Instant. Nightmares.
