10 Most Inappropriate Doctor Who Moments
3. The Sixth Doctor Strangles Peri - The Twin Dilemma
Yep, sticking with the Sixth Doctor here. In his very first story, 1984’s The Twin Dilemma, Colin Baker set the tone for his instantly dislikeable incarnation.
After regenerating and donning the absolute worst Doctor outfit of all time, he starts behaving erratically, accusing his companion Peri of being an alien spy before suddenly strangling her. He manages to stop himself before he can kill her, but the damage was already done.
As introductions to a new character go, this has to be among the worst of them. As mentioned before, the Doctor being violent for no reason just isn’t right.
We have since learned that the idea was always to introduce Baker’s Doctor in a harsh light, with the character becoming kinder as his tenure progressed, something that Peter Capaldi would end up doing more successfully with the Twelfth Doctor during the revival era.
But going as far as to try to choke someone close to you to death, this was very, very misguided. It’s this scene alone that made the Sixth Doctor so unlikeable, and the primary reason why The Twin Dilemma is considered one of, if not the worst Doctor Who story of all time.
