10 Most Intriguing Characters From The Last Kingdom
5. Beocca
As a godly man, Father Beocca always sought to guide Uhtred towards the path of honour, even when it conflicted with his own beliefs. The pair may not have seen eye-to-eye when it came to religion, but Beocca always stood by Uhtred’s side, often acting against his own self-interests by pleading to King Alfred to show mercy to Uhtred for his transgressions. This willingness to put his reputation on the line for the sake of Uhtred makes Beocca such an absorbing and likeable character, as few others are prepared to do the same.
After the passing of King Alfred, Beocca found his position at court untenable. His decision to join Uhtred’s endeavour to reclaim Bebbanburg ultimately ended in failure though, and Beocca sacrificed his life to save Uhtred from the trap that had been set for him.
In many ways, he was the consistent father figure that Uhtred never had, and the death of Beocca, who had been a constant in The Last Kingdom from the very beginning, was a devastating loss.
