10 Most Ludicrous Moments From Sense8

9. Van Damn Vs Bat-Van

The Wachowskis don't tend to be shy and retiring when it comes to their pop culture influences. The Matrix got its name from a virtual reality from William Gibson's cyberpunk novel Neuromancer, the wire work in that film was all their favourite martial arts movies stuck blender, and the method of jacking into the titular mainframe is nicked from anime Ghost In The Shell.

In Sense8, that pop culture savvy is worn even more explicitly on its sleeve. Or more accurately, it's worn on the side of a couple of buses. The scenes in Nairobi are amongst the show's best, and that's all down to the irrepressible nature of actor Aml Ameen as Capheus, the driver whose entire life philosophy is based around Jean Claude Van-Damme.

Not the weirdest figure to worship, but he's up there. Capheus naming his bus Van Damn is one thing; his initial major conflict being against a rival company whose vehicle is emblazoned with BAT-VAN is odd. His speeches about the guiding spirit of Van Damme are insane. Super cool, but super strange, that a weird sexy sci-fi show has so much time for the star of Bloodsport.
