10 Most Memorable TV Drama Moments Of The 2010s

6. A Beautiful Bloodbath - Hannibal (2014)

The landscape of television drama in the last decade or so has seen a surprising number of shows revolving around frightfully charismatic serial killers. Only one, however, presented the inevitable bloodshed that the subject matter promises with such striking beauty, elegance, and artfulness.

Yet even those relatively violence desensitised folks who consider themselves part of the Hannibal fandom were by and large blown away by what went down in “Mizumono”, the season 2 finale.

Nothing less than errant insanity took place, with swarths of major characters including one thought long dead (only to be killed once more) being subjected to stabbings, slicings, and smashings, with copious amounts of the red stuff. Anyone hoping that the cannibalistic Hannibal Lector would be caught came away quite disappointed, to say the least.

Traumatised memories of a gutted (in more ways than one) protagonist Will Graham, Jack Crawford apparently bleeding out in a pantry, Alana Bloom shoved through a window, and the shocking return and demise of Abigail Hobbs carved out the last few moments of Mizumono as a singularly stunning chapter of a brutal tale.

With all that blood coming so quickly, the foundation of the series wasn't so much rocked as obliterated. Only Game of Thrones found a crueller way for viewer expectations to be dashed. Who would survive wasn’t immediately clear; but remembering to breathe took higher priority for fans than waiting for the next season to arrive... barely.
