10 Most Memorable TV Drama Moments Of The 2010s

7. That Elevator Scene - Fargo (2014)

Amongst a season full of chillingly brutal Lorne Malvo moments, a rejuvenated Lester Nygaard's reunion with Malvo in a moving elevator ends well for no-one involved.

Having apparently gotten off scot-free with the murder of his wife, Lester is living his dream while celebrating in the opulence of Las Vegas, with a new woman by his side and the kind of career recognition that he’d always sought no longer eluding him.

When he happens to spot Lorne Malvo in a new guise, that force of unbridled destruction who’d originally tempted him over to the proverbial dark side, it’s obvious that his best course of action would be to stay as far away as possible.

Obvious to all except Lester, that is. Blind to danger and feeling invulnerable, he forces his way into an elevator occupied by Malvo and a trio of unlucky bystanders already involved in the cunning, malevolent Malvo’s latest plot.

In foolishly demanding acknowledgement, Lester unwittingly seals the fates of all those present. After the sinister Malvo asks “is this what you want?”, he pulls out a gun and bloodies the shiny surfaces of the walls with the brains of all three innocent spectators, including his own fiancée!

And despite the literal ascendence of the elevator, one could be forgiven for feeling that Lester has voluntarily descended into a hell of his own making, confronting the devil that he should have known full well rules it.

This was a shocking reminder of just who Malvo is, as if anyone needed it.
