1. Cubic Crush - By Any Other Name

Evidently, then, the infamously unlucky redshirts and miscellaneous crewmen of the Enterprise met their ends in a wide variety of ways, ranging from violent, to disturbing, to just plain weird. Some lucky officers, however, got to experience a death that encompassed all of these qualities.

So it was for poor Yeoman Thompson in “By Any Other Name”, an ill-fated victim of the oddly specific powers demonstrated by the Kelvans and their nifty control belts.

Punishing Kirk for his attempt to escape the clutches of the dastardly Kelvans, they use their belts to transform two of his landing party (including Thompson) into small, chalky cubes. Q from the 007 franchise has been trying to develop this feature for years, but the best he’s managed so far is a belt-powered grappling hook.

Perhaps sensing that Kirk was rather desensitised by then to his male crewmen being offed, the Kelvans opted to hit him where it really hurts by choosing the unfortunately feminine Thompson for execution - namely by crushing her cubic stand-in into dust. Ashes to ashes...
