10 Most Messed Up Twin Peaks Moments
"How's Annie?"
It would be easy to mention our small backwards-talking friend from the Red Room, who danced to silky smooth jazz as the ghost of Laura Palmer whispered cryptic clues into Dale Cooper's ear. Yes, that iconic scene is weird, but it's also strangely pleasant - its unsettling first viewing softened, perhaps, by the chevron branding that emerged from it - and pleasant ain't always a word you can easily associate with Twin Peaks.
In fact, some of what the show gave us was downright terrifying. Lynch and Frost, we salute you! The original '90s series dished out its fair share of messed up moments, but the movie prequel, Fire Walk With Me, took brazen content to the next level...
After which came 2017's long-awaited third series, and that made pretty much everything everywhere seem normal by comparison. We still don't really know what the majority of it was about.
There is therefore no end of weird Twin Peaks moments, but here is a lowdown of some of the most f**ked up, gathered from excerpts old and new.
If you watched these scenes even once, you're likely to never forget them.
10. Audrey Wakes Up
It was great seeing Audrey make her triumphant return in the new series, for the fleeting segments that it lasted. She was mostly known in the original as the adventurous exuberant teen, who stole the hearts of many. She even had her own theme music.
Her story arc in the original show ended with Audrey being caught up in a big explosion. Was there any closure beyond that? Yes and no...but mostly no. The new series saw her engaging in numerous arguments with an exhaustively boring partner, before letting her hair down in the Roadhouse nightclub.
Seeing her dancing whimsically to Audrey's Dance is a great hallmark to the classic series. The background audience in the club also seemed to enjoy it. Unfortunately it gets interrupted by a barroom brawl, at which point Audrey goes into a panic and 'wakes up' terrified and confused in a sterile white room in front of a mirror. We never saw her again.
Both the scene and the episode ended with the in-house jazz band, replaying Audrey's Dance, but now in reverse.
Well that cleared that up then.
