10 Most Overrated Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes

Season 6 is controversial. Some love the mature tone, whilst others believe the writers pushed the show into an unnecessarily dark place.

But ‘Normal Again’ is a bit of an outlier. It’s a standalone episode where the Slayer starts to question the world around her. The story even has an alternative reality that features a mentally ill Buffy who believes the Buffyverse is just her mind’s creation.

The issue is that the episode feels a bit like a gimmick – the concept is interesting, but it doesn’t really serve a purpose. The storyline of the season doesn’t move forward, and there isn’t much character development, either. Whilst you could argue Buffy’s acceptance of reality is a metaphor for her willingness to keep fighting, this struggle has been explored plenty of times before.

If you were to remove ‘Normal Again’ from Season 6, nothing would really change. It’s a fun filler episode, but nothing more than that.
