3. Sins Of The Father

Star Trek Riker Klingon
CBS

We all love a story that pits personal pride and sacrifice against the need of the greater good and Sins Of the Father exquisitely does that.

During the episode, Picard and Worf are tasked with travelling to the Klingon home world, where Worf is to face crimes pinned onto his father. They come to discover that the charges are false but that they are part of an elaborate power play by a rival house. Ultimately deciding to use a different house's name as the scapegoat they manage to keep the peace. This is a dishonourable, against the Klingon mantra and maintains the charges against his father, but by allowing his own race to shun him Worf assists in the rise of a fairer family into power, thus promising a better quality of life for the Klingons.

The episode affords the audience a real insight into the dark and deceitful ways of Klingon culture, offering a rare but hugely warranted look into one of the more popular races in all of Star Trek.

In a heartbreaking character growth, Worf's act of sacrifice endears himself to fans of the show as his story, values, character and ultimately, his personality is fleshed out in a wonderfully constructed episode which becomes as equally harrowing as it does uplifting upon every visit.
