10 Most Satisfying Buffy The Vampire Slayer Moments
1. Giles Blows Up The School (Season 3, Episode 22)
In the final episode of Season 3, the gang head off to Graduation for a confrontation with Mayor Wilkins. Following the Mayor’s transformation into the giant demon Olvikan, the students of Sunnydale High rise up together, using an array of weapons to take on the Mayor and his supporters.
It’s a terrific scene and a satisfying follow up to Buffy’s Class Protector Award at the prom – for the first time in three seasons, all her classmates are supporting her against the forces of evil. But the best moment comes at the very end of the battle.
After provoking the Mayor into chasing her, Buffy leads him into the library, which is full of explosives. She then jumps through the window and away from the blast radius before Giles triggers the detonation.
Obviously, it’s great to see the gang take down the Big Bad, but this explosion is also a watershed moment. The destruction of the school symbolises the end of the high-school years, and – as the primary father figure – Giles is the perfect man to initiate the next phase of their lives.
Everyone wants to end their school days on a high, and the Scooby Gang get the perfect send-off.
