10 Most Satisfying Buffy The Vampire Slayer Moments
2. Spike Sacrifices Himself (Season 7, Episode 22)
The final episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer centres around a big battle between the forces of good and evil at Sunnydale High. When Willow unleashes the power of the Scythe, the Potential Slayers are activated and fight their way through an army of ubervamps.
But they still have to deal with the Hellmouth, and that’s where Spike comes in. Using Angel’s powerful Amulet, Spike stays beneath the school and closes off the Hellmouth whilst the others make a break for it. He then has one last exchange with Buffy before he’s consumed by the power of the Amulet.
This is the perfect ending for Spike. When he first entered Sunnydale back in Season 2, he was a vain, bloodthirsty vampire hellbent on destroying the Slayer. But after becoming a permanent part of the gang in Season 4, he undertakes a remarkable change. He even goes through the Demon Trials at the end of Season 6 to regain his soul.
Spike’s final sacrifice is the climax of his redemption arc, and that’s what makes this moment so satisfying to watch.
