10 Most Satisfying Star Trek Moments
2. There's Another Ship Coming In!
The moment that Starfleet had feared for nearly ten years, their most lethal enemy, The Borg, had begun an invasion of Federation space. Their target was Earth, the home of the human race and the spiritual seat of the Federation itself. The Battle of Sector 001 was brief but bloody, with dozens of Federation starships called upon in the defence of Earth.
While ships like the Bozeman, the Lexington and the Defiant were all willing to lay down their lives in the face of the threat, there is one ship missing from the line-up. Just in case the Romulans decided to take advantage of the situation, the USS Enterprise E was sent to watch the Neutral Zone, to scan some class-2 comets.
But when the reports of the fleet having engaged the Borg are played on the bridge of the Enterprise, the harrowed look on every face present speaks to the intention to disobey orders and join the fight. When Captain Picard hears the Borg calmly demanding for the Federation to lower their shields and surrender their ships, that their biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to their own, that Resistance Is Futile... he knows he must do something. And as Mr. Data so rightfully points out, 'To Hell with our orders'.
