10 Most Satisfying Star Trek Moments

3. Fire Over Khitomer

At the conclusion of the suitably awesome Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, the Enterprise comes into conflict with the experimental Klingon Bird of Prey that can fire while cloaked as it attempts to be a part of the plot to disrupt the Khitomer accords. Both Klingon and Starfleet personnel were involved in this plot (ironically working together to sabotage an alliance between the Federation and the Klingon Empire).

As the Enterprise attempts to survive the blistering attacks by the Shakespeare-touting Colonel Chang, Spock and Dr. McCoy manage to modify a torpedo that will track down the Bird of Prey and hit it. As the Excelsior rides to the rescue, under the command of Captain Sulu, the two ships both manage to target the Klingon ship.

For just a brief moment, absolute cinematic perfection is achieved as the view switches between the powerful tones of both Captain Kirk and Captain Sulu ordering their ships to target that explosion and fire.

The moral of this story is that peace comes at a price and we have to be prepared to face that there are those who will oppose it for the sake of bitterness and mistrust. Kirk has to overcome his own bitterness at the death of his son in this film, but with the destruction of Chang's Bird of Prey, he manages to find some measure of peace, that undiscovered country.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
