10 Most Shocking Bojack Horseman Moments
9. Hank Hippopopalous Confronts Diane In A Car Park
After accidentally bringing attention to allegations of sexual misconduct against a much-loved personality, Diane finds herself at the centre of the media fall out.
With its razor-sharp social commentary Bojack Horseman unpicks the sinister absurdity of the cult of celebrity, as Diane herself is vilified for outing the much-loved star. Diane is the unwitting messenger who is roundly shot. As death threats roll in and she is dragged into a media-fuelled fury.
In the episode’s most menacing moment, Hank Hippopopalous lures Diane to a car park and spells out to her and us why he is invincible, how the media will forget all about his misdeeds in a day and that he can do anything he wants. Beneath his thin veneer of jollity, there is real menace.
Hippopopalous is a veteran predator in the guise of a nation’s lovable companion. Sound familiar? Immediate comparisons were drawn between Hippopopalous and Bill Cosby. Though Hippopopalous got away with his misdeeds in the episode and we never find out what happened to him thereafter. Cosby, eventually, did not get away with it. Thankfully, the real-life problems explored in this episode are starting to be addressed.
