When the sixth season of The Walking Dead ended, fans around the world were outraged. Newly introduced villain Negan had beaten one of the core characters to death, but to find out who, fans had to wait six months.

Speculation and anticipation had reached fever pitch by the time “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be” aired, and just about every name had been thrown around as a possibility. When moustachioed tough guy Abraham Ford was revealed as Negan’s victims, fans were perhaps relieved.

Then moments later, thanks to the impulsive actions of Daryl Dixon, Negan turns around and caves in the skull of series mainstay Glenn Rhee. The image of Glenn kneeling on the ground, brain exposed and eye bulging, is truly stomach churning, and when he manages to murmur a final word to his girlfriend Maggie, the viewer is left feeling more desolate than ever.
