10 Most Shocking Moments From Love, Death, & Robots

8. The Cycle – The Witness

Before each episode, just after the title, there’s three icons that appear to tease what the short will be about. One of the Witness’ is a snake eating its own tail; a prelude to the cyclical nature of the plot.

The woman witnesses a murder, gets pursued by the killer, and eventually has to kill him to save her own life. Immediately after her kill, she looks to the building across to see the man she just executed staring at her; a mirror image of the opening.

It’s fitting that the most uniquely animated short also has the most abstract narrative. It’s not spelled out what it means, but it’s a twist that surely elevated the already surreal cartoon.

If you talk in a theatre I'm in, be prepared to get some pretty passive aggressive stares.
