The then Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch was summoned under false pretences and repeatedly stabbed in the chest by his brothers, with each blow accompanied by the explanation of: ‘for the watch’. Some at Castle Black believed Jon to be leading them down the wrong path after he allowed Wildlings to integrate south of the Wall.

Jon had been touted as the show’s everlasting hero and was expected to survive until the end. But, as the camera panned away, his body motionless on the floor and his blood trickling across the ice, it was easy to believe that this hero had fallen.
