10 Most Soul-Destroying Moments In Squid Game

9. A fatal game of Red Light, Green Light

Ji-Yeong Death Squid Game

The show's pilot episode did an excellent job of setting up the characters, their financial and/or familial woes, and as the brutality that awaited them as well as viewers across its nine episode run. In addition to seeing the particular hardships that each main player faced, the first game of Red Light, Green Light was nowhere as wholesome as its childhood origins.

The childhood game's fatal twist led to unsuspecting players being mowed down in cold blood if they failed to remain still when needed. This made for uncomfortable viewing as nearly every player's fear was extremely evident, as was their desperate desire to make it through to the other side of the playground before the timer ran out.

Despite the carnage and almost cavalier loss of life at the hands of the game organizers, Red Light Green Light did a superb job of establishing character traits such as Ali's selflessness, Sangwoo's smarts and Player 1's mystique due to his then-unexplained joy at the events transpiring in front of him.
