10 Most Surprising TV Cancellations Of 2020

5. AJ and the Queen

Glow Cancelled
Netflix

In the world of entertainment, it seemed that RuPaul could do no wrong, but sadly the cancellation of the superstar Drag-Queen's original series seems to have disproved that. The story told of Ruby Red - played by RuPaul herself - a struggling Drag Queen who on her journey travelling across America forms an unlikely bond with the young AJ.

The reason behind the show's cancellation has not been made thoroughly clear. However, it seems likely down to a few factors. The first is that the show did not manage to draw in many viewers outside of the established fanbase of RuPaul, which was sorely needed in order to survive in a highly competitive TV market.

The second is likely down to the fact that the show was not incredibly well-received critically. The Atlantic called it "extremely uneven but often loveable", and that seems to be the general consensus from all reviewers. The show certainly had its charms but a lack of focus and direction.

It comes as a surprise mostly as RuPaul is such a big star, and could have produced a better and more well-rounded second season if given the chance.
