10 Most Surprising TV Cancellations Of 2020
6. Altered Carbon
The world of Sci-Fi has some rather outlandish premises for TV, and Altered Carbon was no exception. The show told the story of Takeshi Kovacs, in a world where consciousness is digitized and stored.
Kovacs returned to life in a new body and needed to solve a murder to win his freedom. The concept was unique and allowed for new actors to take on the leading role, with season one using Joel Kinnaman, and the second with Anthony Mackie.
The reason for the show's cancellation was simply low-viewership.
Netflix has a formula in place that checks the viewership of a show with cost for renewal, thereby judging which properties to continue with.
Sadly, Altered Carbon did not make the cut.
According to the novel's author Richard K. Morgan on his blog in 2016, the plan for this show was to run for five seasons and extend past the source material itself. This makes the sudden cancellation all the more tragic, as there was plenty of scope to keep going with the ambitious property.
