10 Most Tragic Batman Villains

7. Poison Ivy

Mister Freeze Heart of Ice
DC Comics / Joshua Middleton

Pamela Isley, when she started out, just wanted what any other self respecting scientist these days wants: to NOT die in a fully avoidable climate disaster just so that some greedy billionaire could have another island.

Not seeing a means of solving this problem the conventional way, Pamela turned to an experimental plant serum to perhaps find a third way out down the line.

Unsurprisingly, fate had other plans, and she ended up getting doused in her own chemicals which, instead of getting her a little wet like how this would normally play out, instead gave her toxic blood and the ability to communicate with and control plant life.

Her faith in humanity's ability to keep from destroying itself completely gone, Pamela rebranded herself as Poison Ivy and set out to save the planet by any means necessary.

As you can imagine, more recent writers have grown sympathetic to her cause and have made strides to rebrand her as an anti-hero instead of a villain. However, the tragedy of this woman losing almost all connection to her humanity still remains, with her better angels only barely maintained by her connection to Harley Quinn.
