10 Most Underrated Buffy The Vampier Slayer Episodes
2. Help
This Season Seven entry is everything you want from Buffy and more. Buffy has just began a job as the counsellor at the new Sunnydale High School, and one of her first visitors, Cassie, lets slip that she’s going to die soon but she doesn’t know how.
That’s it, in a nutshell. Buffy and her friends are forced to race against the clock and stop Cassie’s death. Although this could have been a classic Buffy monster-of-the-week escapade, writer Rebecca Rand Kirshner and director Rick Rosenthal manage to keep things very straight and simple. Yes, there is a monster, and a group of demon worshipping students, but they are by no means the focus.
The focus, you notice, is actually Cassie herself, one of the show’s most tragic figures. Played beautifully by Azura Skye, Cassie is melancholic, sweet and oddly optimistic in the face of her coming demise. The shock twist at the end of the episode solidifies this as a not-so-typical entry in the Buffy canon, showing viewers how good does not always triumph and showing Buffy and her friends that not everyone can be saved.
