7. Applied Anthropology And Culinary Arts

Season 2 follows a nearly season long arc in which Shirley is pregnant. Though it's obvious to almost everyone that the baby is Shirley's ex-husband and current boyfriend Andre's, Chang believes himself to be the father.

This plotline comes to a head in the episode Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts. At the study group's Anthropology final, Shirley's water breaks. In a payoff to a background plotline from earlier in the season, Abed knows how to deliver a baby, and determines that there's no time to get Shirley to a hospital. Instead, Abed guides Britta through delivering the baby, and Chang distracts Shirley with stories about "Chang babies" to ease her pain.

This scene acts as the climax of Season 2. Not only does it cap off Shirley's pregnancy plotline, but so many characters help in ways only they can. Abed helps with his knowledge, Britta takes action, Jeff gives an inspiring speech, and Chang provides ridiculous distractions. Through their coming together, they help Shirley give birth.

Despite being the conclusion to so many arcs, and featuring an amazing performance from Yvette Nicole Brown, this episode often feels brushed aside by fans because of the two paintball episodes that follow. While these paintball episodes are some of Community's best, Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts deserves more love than it gets.
