3. Doreah And Xaro

There was nothing brutal or bloody about the deaths of Doreah and Xaro. In fact, the actual moment of their demise wasn’t even seen. Psychologically, however, their deaths were unquestionably disturbing.

Both Doreah and Xaro betrayed Daenerys whilst in the city of Qarth, and rather than have them killed quickly, the Mother of Dragons chose to imprison them inside Xaro’s own vault, which he had falsely claimed was full of treasure.

In addition to being deeply unsettling to watch, this scene was also a key moment in Daenerys’ character arc. In contrast to the woman she was during the opening of Season 1, Daenerys had grown to be far more merciless by the end of the second season.

What made Doreah and Xaro’s deaths so interesting, therefore, was that Daenerys had no remorse for her decision. Indeed, she appeared to almost enjoy the sound of Doreah’s screams.
