10 Most Underrated SpongeBob SquarePants Episodes
7. 'Goodbye, Krabby Patty?' (Season Nine)
I don't think many people would have expected Jon Hamm's television return to his Mad Men role to take place in SpongeBob SquarePants, but here we are.
Hamm plays Don Grouper in the episode 'Goodbye, Krabby Patty?', a scheming ad executive who's clearly inspired by the actor's role on the Emmy Award winning series.
This time, Hamm is focused on finding ways for Mr. Krabs to market his new frozen krabby patties to the public. He eventually pegs Patrick to be the product's spokesperson, a role that the starfish soon learns isn't all that it's cracked up to be.
Eventually, Hamm's Grouper convinces Mr. Krabs to start cutting corners in the creation of his new supermarket-available product, leading to disastrous posterior-themed results.
Of course, that obviously means the episode isn't without it's moments of low-brow humor, but there's a lot of surprisingly heartfelt moments on the path there. In particular, Patrick's turn from willing commercial star to depressed corporate pawn actually hits pretty deep for a cartoon targeted at kids, making this is a standout season nine episode.
