10 Most Unexpected Star Trek Moments

3. Commander Sela

Thanks to the events of the third season episode of Star Trek TNG, Yesterday's Enterprise, Tasha Yar was given a proper send off as she travels back in time, from an alternate reality, to aid the Enterprise-C in its final mission, fighting the Romulans at Narendra III. There, she is taken captive and a Romulan officer takes a shine to her. She is kept as his concubine and they have a child together - Sela.

That is where the relationship to humanity ends. Sela may look and sound like Yar, but whens she steps out of the shadows in the closing moments of Redemption Part 1, this was a moment that took viewers completely by surprise. The fact that the story tied Yar's arc into a neat bow only served to improve the overall Romulan saga.

Sela is a character who very well could return. She was left alive at the end of Unification Part 2, and though she hasn't been seen since, with Star Trek Picard focusing so heavily on Romulan activities, the time may be ripe for Denise Crosby to return to the franchise again.
