10 Movies You Didn't Know Were Being Remade As Upcoming TV Shows

The shows that could be the next Fargo... Or the next Ferris Bueller.

Over the past few decades, remaking movies into television series has become a regular staple of the TV landscape. This is mainly because TV networks often believe it to be an easy way to success, instead of promoting new, original content.

And, oftentimes, the results are quite disastrous. Such examples of not-so-good TV shows based on movies include Ferris Bueller, Robocop: Prime Detectives, Uncle Buck and Rush Hour - all of which have been unsuccessful and critically mauled.

However, there have been some truly brilliant examples that show us it can be done well. Fargo and Friday Night Lights have both been called two of the best TV series of the 21st century, while Buffy the Vampire Slayer is acclaimed as one of most influential TV shows of all time. Also, last year's Watchmen (also based on the graphic novel) was utterly brilliant.

So, with a huge number of TV shows based on movies currently in development, it’s safe to say they could be very hit or miss. But it's still worth getting at least a LITTLE excited for some of the more starry options...

10. Chucky

Chucky is the latest horror film franchise making its way to the small screen, following the recent television adaptations of Scream, The Purge and From Dusk Till Dawn.

The horror franchise has released 8 films over the past 30 years, and with its new TV series on the way, shows no signs of slowing down. It will also continue to release future feature films, sharing a continuity with the new TV show.

It has been said that the franchise creator, Don Mancini will be involved in the series, writing and directing a few episodes, and Brad Dourif will return to voice the psychotic murderous toy doll.

Filming has already finished, and the programme will air sometime later in the year, on Syfy.
