10 Netflix Shows EVERYONE Should Binge-Watch
5. Making A Murderer
Netflix boasts a reputation for being the home of all the best films and documentaries focused on the weird, wacky and dark pursuits from around the world. Making A Murderer was arguably where this reputation was first founded following its release in 2015 and subsequent accolades.
Making A Murderer follows the staggering story of Steven Avery, a Wisconsin local who was wrongfully imprisoned for 18 years for sexual assault and attempted murderer, only to be set free and later sentenced to prison again in 2007 for the murder of a woman called Teresa Halbach. Alongside Avery's remarkable tale, Making A Murderer also delves into the story of Brendan Dassey, Avery's nephew who was also arrested and convicted as an accessory to his uncle's killing.
Controversial and powerful, filming for the documentary took place well over a decade and even helped spawn a 500,000 strong petition to the White House to officially pardon Avery. Making A Murderer won four Primetime Emmy Awards in 2016 alone and the talking points around Avery, Dassey and the Wisconsin justice departments remain hotly discussed amongst the show's fans to this day.
