Academy award winning director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade brings together fifteen years worth of interviews and filming in The Staircase, a true crime documentary following the controversial trial of Michael Peterson.

In December 2001, well-renowned novelist Michael Peterson made a call to local authorities that his wife, Kathleen, had drunkenly fallen down the stairs in their home and died. He recalls that, almost immediately after arriving at the house, he felt like the police were circling around him with suspicion and Kathleen's death quickly went to trial. Despite the efforts of Peterson, his defence team led by David Rudolf, and his whole family, the trial resulted in the novelist being convicted of murder in 2003 after one of the longest and most publicly hyped trials in American history.

The Staircase truly is the ultimate binge-watch for any true crime fans on Netflix, constantly swinging from one side to the other as each piece of evidence is brought to the fold. With access being given to Peterson's house, the behind the scenes goings on with both defence and prosecution, and the events of the courtroom during the trial, each episode brings with it some truly staggering revelations and will leave audiences wondering whether or not Michael Peterson truly is a killer or not.
