2. Galactic Core
In the Milky Way Galaxy, there are four quadrants. While the exact dimensions of there territories seems to fluctuate, the Alpha and Beta Quadrants are home to the Federation, the Klingon Empire and the Romulan Empire. The vast majority of the Star Trek franchise happens within them. The Delta Quadrant was unexplored until Voyager was accidentally sent there. The Gamma Quadrant rests on the other side of the wormhole in Deep Space Nine.
Then, there's the Galactic Core.
Separate from the four quadrants, the Galactic Core remains largely unexplored and rarely mentioned. It is primarily used for navigation in Star Trek, though movies and TV series have revealed that there are planets, species and powerful entities there. The Federation has made both manned and unmanned missions to the Core to explore it but their findings have never been discussed.
This is a significant portion of the Milky Way Galaxy in the Star Trek universe that is filled with untapped storytelling potential. It could end up being one of the strangest and most interesting series in Star Trek history. One of the few interactions came on The Next Generation when a species called the Cytherians modified Reginald Barclay and brought the Enterprise-D to them in the Core.
