10 Nostalgic British Children's TV Classics

5. Jamie And The Magic Torch

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMNG2LtF41o Made in 1976, Jamie and the Magic Torch featured for years on ITV - the bit after Schools and Colleges and before Adult daytime entertainment began. The cartoon featured the antics of Jamie and his dog Wordsworth. Wordsworth took care of the magic torch. When Jamie's mum tucked him up for the night and turned off the light, Wordsworth would come out from under the bed and give him the torch. A portal to another world would open and Jamie and Wordsworth would go down a helter skelter into Cuckoo Land where they would sort out the resident's problems. The duo had to return to normal world before Jamie's mother checked on him. Produced by legendary animation makers Cosgrove-Hall, Jamie and The Magic Torch was beloved of millions of children. These now grown children remember it fondly as one of Cosgrove-Hall's finest productions and now has a considerable cult following.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
