The ultimate parody of inept police work Commissioner Clancy Wiggum is a shining example of how not to do the job. He's lazy, dim-witted and highly incompetent; struggling to solve even the most basic crimes that occur in Springfield. Rarely seen without a doughnut in hand, and is every stereotype of American policing rolled into one. He has recently been promoted to police commissioner despite his complete ignorance to the laws he is meant to uphold. The fact is, he only became chief as his disgruntled predecessor announced he's give the job to the next person he saw, who happened to be Wiggum. When called upon to perform his duty to protect and serve he's very reluctant to work, often heard saying things like: 'I'd rather let a thousand guilty men go free than chase after them'. The fact that he wields such authority must be a scary thought for Springfield's residents although if you have financial means, he isn't above taking a bribe to look the other way. Parodying police has become commonplace in animation but The Simpsons got in there early and created one of the most beloved if useless cops on television. Although he'd struggle to tie his shoes if it wasn't for his loyal companions Lou and Eddie, Clancy Wiggum's ineptitude is always a joy to watch.
