Star Trek Gomtuu
CBS

This space-borne creature lived through several millennia until it was discovered by Starfleet. Though it had the power to exist independently of any other beings, it originally held a crew with whom it lived symbiotically. Radiation managed to kill this crew, which eventually left the vessel suicidal.

Unable to communicate with it through traditional means, Starfleet enlisted the help of Tam Elbrun, a telepathic Betazoid who was able to understand and be understood by the creature. While it had decided to wait in the orbit of a star that was about to go supernova, ‘Tin Man’, as it was also dubbed, was sought for study by both the Federation and the Romulan Empire. It destroyed a Romulan Warbird and severely damaged the Enterprise-D, before hurling the Galaxy-class vessel, along with a second Warbird, several billion kilometres away.

However, through Elbrun, it was able to discover a new purpose to live. It elected to go on existing, saving both ships from the supernova and leaving to travel the galaxy with the Betazoid. Both beings found a measure of peace in this way.
