4. Spongebob Squarepants
Those of you who argue that Spongebob Squarepants was never awesome to begin with obviously weren't born in the early-mid nineties and lack the proper age to appreciate what was once one of the best cartoons of all time. Unfortunately, like Rugrats before it, Spongebob Squarepants has continued far beyond the point of no return, declining in quality as time went by. Before the show was revived after a two-year hiatus the jokes were clever, the characters well fleshed out, and the overall environment entertaining and inviting. It was a show that was for adults as much as it was for children. Regrettably, the jokes are now static having to be force-fed to the audience. The characters have given up their unique attributes to instead be stereotyped into the roles they previously fit. Take Patrick for instance. We always knew he wasn't the sharpest star in the sea, but the way the character delivered his lines was so organic, so natural. Now we are constantly reminded of how much an idiot Patrick is so much that it is blatantly pointed out by the character himself, almost as if he is a bad actor trying to get the point across. The tone of the series is far less enjoyable now than it was years before. The only reason the series continues is due to how much money it makes for Viacom as it is so easily digested by children. If the show were to be judged on quality alone it wouldn't have made it beyond seasons 4-5.
