10 Other Outrageously Well-Dressed TV Shows (That Aren't Mad Men)

5. The Good Wife - Daniel Lawson

The Good Wife Cast Cbs 636 Daniel Lawson, the show's costume designer, recently revealed that on any given shooting day, there are over 300 suits on racks, ready to be picked for the stars. Not only that, other than a few pieces, they are all bought anew each season. Given The Good Wife's setting€”the crisp Chicago law firm Lockhart/Gardner€”it's to be expected that there would be quite a few designer suits for the cast. But that astronomical number points to Lawson's meticulousness and passion about the show's strong use of fashion, which includes such notable labels as Proenza Schouler (embodied by a gorgeous jade green jacket worn by Margulies's Alicia in the fourth season opener), Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Akris, L.K. Bennett, Ralph Lauren, Ferragamo, and others. Lawson talks about his vision:
"I wanted the female leads to be feminine in a man's world, unashamedly feminine. They are women, but that doesn't mean they are less powerful and less smart."
The show's wardrobe recently got a bit of a real-life crossover when Kate Middleton and Margulies's Alicia wore the same L.K. Bennett peplum jacket, something which delighted Lawson.
"I thought it was really flattering. Kate Middleton definitely wore it first, although we had ordered it before we saw her wearing it. Both are very strong, beautiful women, and Alicia should take that as a real compliment that royalty is wearing what she's wearing ... We love that label."
Personally, i'm most fascinated by Kalinda's style, something unusual on TV - a juxtaposition of textures and sartorial influences, and her embrace of leather jackets and boots has created an iconic look for viewers. "One of the big things that I wanted to do with Kalinda was not have her look like one of the lawyers," said Lawson. "She needed to look like she belonged there, and yet she didn't belong there."

Born in Israel, but raised partly in the UK, Shira is rather an odd duck. She will get in your face with her opinion, but will then be super polite to the waitress serving her a cocktail, no matter how bad the service is. Movies are her passion, along with good TV, music, and Shakespeare. She loves to sing and goes to karaoke a lot, too. She will do anything creative, and will resort to finger painting if necessary. Shira also, apparently, enjoys writing about herself in third person, which is weird. But she just finished her first Fantasy novel, and it's not about her, so that's ok. Shira is very glad to be a part of WhatCulture!
