6. Ugly Betty - Patricia Field
Did you know that the red clunky glasses that Betty wears were originally ones Ms. Field wore on her own face during the planning of the pilot episode? Field explains:
"I think America pulled them off my face and said, 'Let me try your glasses.' And she tried them on, and they became her glasses."
She explains the artistic vision of the show, which purposefully exaggerates the aesthetics of New York.
"A lot of it is seen from her point of view, so it's colored by who she is."
lots of colorful prints and patterns and layers rule this festive production. Pat also didn't stop with colorful dresses, skirts, and blouses, she also portrayed her lively personality with tons of accessories. From wide and colorful waist cinching belts, to bombastic brooches, stockings, scarves, t-strap kitten heels, handbags, and jewelry, especially that famous 'B' necklace she always wore. Each character is unique: Betty wears prints and patterns, lots of layers, blouses and belts, like a geeky Rebecca Bloomwood (confessions of a shopaholic). Amanda is somewhat of a fashion victim, wearing mostly tight and cleavage bearing dresses, sky high heels, a young Samantha Jones if you will. Her buddy Marc is always in color, wacky ties, a young and mean Zac Posen (Betty's little brother Justin is a baller too!). Daniel, ever the martyr, goes for power suits, pocket squares and towards the end, a lot of sweats. His mother (I love her!) Claire opts for conservative high fashion, with puffy, long sleeved blouses and statement jewelry. Wilhelmina, the funnest character (obv), always looks like she's attending the governor's ball with sexy, sleek, glamorous solid colors and tight dressed, and endless bouffants! And finally, the little Jenny from the block (a compliment!), there's Hildi, wearing everything tight, bright and out of sight.
