10 Overlooked Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes That Are Secretly Classics

6. Life Serial (Season 6, Episode 5)

Love it, or hate it, there's no denying that season six is brimming with creative ideas and that it took the show in a bold new direction. Perhaps one of the best examples of this is Life Serial, an episode in which Buffy attempts to secure a regular job but finds that she can never quite escape the forces of evil.

Absolute rotters The Trio make it their mission to mess with Buffy at every conceivable turn, ruining any chance she has at working a normal job. Their methods range from ill-timed demon attacks, to trapping Buffy in an endless retail time-loop where she must complete a seemingly impossible task in the name of customer service - the latter of which we can all agree is a fate worse than death.

Above all else, it's the humour in this episode that stands out, juxtaposing the show's more campy and whimsical elements with a more slice-of-life feel that works beautifully. (That and Buffy's customer-service breakdown montage is pure comedy gold.)

Throw in the reveal that demons play poker for kittens and the beginnings of Buffy's self-destructive relationship with Spike and you've got a stellar episode that tends to fly under the radar.
