10 Planned Seasons Of Cancelled Sci-Fi TV Shows

3. Crusade

The mercifully short-lived spin-off to the legendary Babylon 5 was not well received by the fans. Crusade told the story of Captain Gideon on the IAS Excalibur, given this command after a devastating attack on Earth by a race called the Drakh. The Drakh have infected Earth with a viral weapon that will take five years to adapt to human-kind and kill everyone on the planet. The Excalibur was tasked with finding a cure out amongst the stars within the five year deadline.

While the show was critically panned and only lasted thirteen episodes, the scripts for several more episodes were briefly published on bookface.com and plans for the 'back-nine' episodes of season 1 were alluded too. Ideas included delving more into the history of what had happened to the Psi Corps after the events of Babylon 5 (Walter Koenig was due to appear for an episode, reprising his role as Alfred Bester), affecting Daniel Dae Kim's character.

The Apocalypse Box would also have been brought to the forefront, guiding the efforts of Gideon and Matheson. The first season finale was meant to go back into Gideon's memories and the mysterious vessel that destroyed a vessel he was once assigned to, leaving him for dead. Gideon would have uncovered a conspiracy at the heart of Earthforce, one that may have linked to the Shadow-Omega Destroyers seen in season 4 of Babylon 5.

Ultimately, J. Michael Strazynski said that the Drakh plague was only meant to cover the first two seasons of the five-year plan he had. This presumes that the second season would then have seen the crew find a cure and return to Earth as heroes.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
