10 Plot Twists That Totally Ruined Awesome TV Shows

8. Roseanne - The Show Is Roseanne's Story (Season 9)

The final season of Roseanne begins with the Conner family winning the lottery, and the first half of the finale has the family discussing how their life changed following that win. Part 2, however, shifts the tone considerably, as Roseanne explains that it never really happened, and the show has essentially been the book she has been writing, based on her life but altered for parts she didn't like. For instance, the lottery win never happened, and rather than cheating on her, Dan actually died of a heart attack, and the couples throughout the show were actually swapped around, and it was in fact Mark and Darlene and Becky and David who were together. The show ends with Roseanne looking wistfully at the book and heading upstairs, ending on a curious downer and serious WTF that essentially undid much of what we knew and loved about the show. It's clear that the lottery storyline was a bit outlandish, but Dan's death just made everyone feel crappy, and the relationship switch-a-roo falsified too much of the course of the show.
