10 Potentially Awesome New TV Shows Of 2014

9. True Detective

True Detective is set to be an anthology series for HBO, meaning that in a similar vein to American Horror Story, each season will feature a different cast and plot. This has become increasingly popular over the past few years, allowing shows to keep a stylistic continuity while keeping storylines refreshingly brief and snagging the kind of talent that can only commit to one year at a time. In this case, we're looking at Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey sharing the screen together. There's a weed joke there, but frankly it feels a little too easy. Anyway, these two A-listers are going to play a pair of detectives, who have been on the hunt for a Louisiana serial killer for seventeen years. Go ahead: try to tell me you're not interested. Harrelson and McConaughey are both riding out a high point in their respective careers, with Harrelson enjoying a renaissance with his work in the Hunger Games series and pretty much everything other major film released in the past couple years, and McConaughey scoring Oscar buzz for his performance in The Dallas Buyer's Club. From the looks of things, HBO is betting on audiences tuning in just the see the two of them play off one another, and that seems like a safe bet from where I'm sitting.
