10 Potentially Awesome New TV Shows Of 2014

7. Believe

All you really need to know about this show to ensure its success are the creative minds behind it. Celebrated directors Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men, Gravity) and JJ Abrams (Star Trek) are both listed as executive producers, with Cuaron as a co-creator, so we're fairly certain the science fiction program is in safe hands. But going beyond just the production talent, the show also has a fairly promising storyline. There's a young girl with supernatural powers that even she can't control, and eventually the group of people tasked with her protection are forced to turn to a stranger. A death row inmate, to be specific. But don't worry, he didn't actually do whatever it was that got him sent away. So they break him out of jail, and he reluctantly becomes the girl's protector. Together, they develop a strong bond, attempting to use her powers for good, while also staying off the radar of the people who are trying to capture her (presumably to either exploit her gifts or to experiment on her). This program will be debuting on NBC after the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, so we should be able to expect a strong mid-season showing for Believe.
