10 Predictions For The Future Of Humanity (According To Doctor Who)

10. First Contact Will Happen Sooner Rather Than Later

SETI, or the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence, have been probing the galaxy for decades, in the hope of finding any shred of evidence that there€™s life in the universe besides on Earth. In all that time, there€™s been maybe one or two unexplained radio signals (that could easily have just come from some amatuer enthusiast chucking signals up into space from their back garden in Slough) and not a lot else. As time goes by, scientists are getting less convinced that there€™s any intelligent life out there, let alone that we€™ll ever make contact with them. Doctor Who, as in most things, is more optimistic. We've already diverged from the timeline of the show in real life, since the Slitheen didn't infiltrate 10 Downing Street and eventually make first contact back in 2005 (or did they€?), but that was a retcon anyway. According to the novel The Dying Days they initial meeting between humanity and alien is due to happen in 2085, as the Arcturan Treaty is signed - he first official instrument of peaceful contact. Oh, and Bruce Springsteen will be president by then, too, so look forward to that.
