10 Problems With The X-Files Revival Nobody Wants To Admit
4. The Lone Gunmen Are Not Dead
Tech News stalwart Slashdot posted one of the most infamous spoilers in the history of the web by running with the headline "The Lone Gunmen are dead" prior to the season nine episode featuring their fate aired back in 2002. While they would later try and rectify that with a "The Lone Gunmen Are Not Dead" headline, that merely referred to a vision/hallucination Mulder was having in which they would appear.
However, a key part of the extended universe of The X-Files has been their return: they, in fact, faked their deaths.
While actor Dean Haglund has said he expects to get a call from Chris Carter, there's no word on the popular trio's return, there has been no official word as of yet, and no on-set sightings. The Lone Gunmen, in addition to having their own short-lived spin-off, were a big part of the show, always popular with fans, and were there from season one all the way to the end.
Not having them turn up, especially since the comics tell us that they're alive, would be a big problem for many fans.
