10 Problems With Westworld Nobody Wants To Admit
1. The Only Thing It's Ever Focused On Are Plot Twists
Finally, the biggest problem of all with Westworld: it doesn't care about the humans or the hosts. It just cares about delivering plot twist after plot twist, puzzle after puzzle. It's a show which seems so desperate to spawn fan theories, generate internet debate and mystify its viewers that it forgets to come up with a coherent story, standout spectacle or a proper exploration of its thought-provoking themes.
Everything wrong with Westworld really comes down to this one thing. The characters eventually turned out to be nothing more than props to get the next big puzzle into position and it was so in love with its own cleverness that the show was often seriously off-putting.
A lot of the time, the best plot twists will occur naturally as the story is being written. Developing the plot twists and then building the story around it (let's face it, that's what they did with Westworld) is not a good way to write a TV show.
To improve in the future, Westworld needs to focus on its characters more and make all the twists and in-your-face thematic musings a secondary and natural element. As well as this, get rid of those wretched technicians.
