The Character: The Countess Elizabeth The Inspiration: Countess Elizabeth Bathory The Story: Countess Elizabeth Bathory is known as "The First Vampire" and was alive between 1560 and 1614. She was a woman obsessed with beauty and would slaughter virgins, drink and bathe in their blood to preserve her youthful appearance and porcelain white skin. It's unknown how many young women she killed in the name of vanity (it's been said that it's close to 300 or 400), but she was never executed because such an act would have negatively affected the nobility, so she was sentenced to life in prison. Four years later she was found dead in her prison cell. Do you know any interesting back stories of the American Horror Story characters? Share them with us below.
