The Characters: Kit & Alma Walker The Inspiration: Barney & Betty Hill The Story: Whether you were team Kit and Grace or Kit and Alma doesn't really matter. What matters most is that Kit and Alma were inspired by real-life couple Barney & Betty Hill, the first people to claim that they were abducted by aliens back in 1961. The mixed race couple had one difference from Kit and Alma though, Betty was white and Barney was black. Other than that, their stories were pretty much the same and can be read in their book The Interrupted Journey.
