The Character: Mr March The Inspiration: H.H. Holmes The Story: H.H. Holmes is known as the world's first serial killer, because he was one of the first to get caught for his killings. In 1893, Holmes designed and built a hotel in Chicago called the World's Fair Hotel (known to people as The Murder Castle) solely for the purpose of killing his guests. He confessed to over 27 killings, of which only 9 bodies were found, however it's known that his actual body count could have been over 200.
